PROCESS
This process is meant to feel simple and considered. From our first conversation through to the finished piece, each step is approached with care and without hurry. The goal is not just to create something beautiful, but something that feels true to your family and worth keeping.
I. Consultation
We begin with a personal consultation to learn more about your family, your home, and the vision you have for your portraits. We’ll talk through your children and their unique personalities, whether you have heirloom pieces you’d like to incorporate or prefer to draw from the wardrobe, and where you imagine the finished artwork living within your home. We’ll also determine whether your session will take place in Los Olivos or if you would prefer us to travel to you and photograph your family within your home. This is a time to consider frame preferences and overall tone, so everything feels thoughtfully aligned from the start.
This step is an important part of the process, allowing us to get to know you and your children in a more thoughtful way. It helps us understand how to approach the session so it feels natural for them, and ensures we are creating something that reflects your family honestly and with care.
II. Session Reserved
Following our consultation, we move forward in a way that feels simple and considered. Together, we determine the setting for your session, whether in Los Olivos or within your home, and select a date that feels right. Reservations may be secured with our direct support or, for Los Olivos sessions, through a private booking link available on the site.
At the time of booking, a nonrefundable session fee is collected to reserve your date, along with any travel arrangements discussed during the consultation. Once your reservation is confirmed, everything is in place, and we look forward to the session ahead.
III. Portrait Session
Whether your session takes place in Los Olivos or within your home, we arrive with everything needed to create a seamless environment. For in-home sessions, we simply require a modest space for setup. Both setup and breakdown are brief, typically taking no more than fifteen minutes each.
We begin by selecting wardrobe and allowing time for your child to change. From there, the session unfolds gently, guided but never forced. The session itself is relaxed and unhurried, generally lasting between fifteen to one twenty minutes of shot time per child. If more than one child is being photographed, timing will extend to allow each child the space they need.
We rely primarily on warmth, patience, and natural interaction rather than props, though a few simple items are available if helpful for child comfort. Parents are welcome to assist when needed, though most often children settle into the experience on their own.
Each child is photographed through a small series of poses, allowing for variation while maintaining a consistent, timeless feel. We typically conclude with a sibling portrait, though for more hesitant children, we may begin there to help them feel at ease.
IV. Portrait Review & Framing Design
We schedule a follow up in person meeting or virtual appointment to review your portraits and thoughtfully select the images that will become your finished pieces, typically one to three per child. This part of the process is centered on creating something lasting rather than collecting many images. Each selection is made with the intention of becoming a true keepsake.
During this time, we also work through the framing and presentation together, considering moulding, matting, and scale so the final piece feels at home within your space. The proofs you see are unrefined images from the session, offering a clear view of the portrait before it is carefully finished. Once your selections are made, we spend time refining and perfecting each image to create a clean, sincere, and timeless result.
This step is an important part of the process, as it is where the portrait begins to take its final form. We do not offer standalone digital collections, as the work is intended to exist as a finished piece within your home. A complimentary digital file will accompany your heirloom, with rights reserved by Floret en Frame, but the focus remains on creating artwork that is meant to be lived with and kept.

Your finished artwork is carefully crafted using museum grade paper and archival pigment inks, then hand matted and framed using conservation materials selected for their longevity and ability to withstand light and time. Each piece is constructed with intention and precision, designed not only for today, but for the years it will live within your home.
Your portrait is completed in Opelika, Alabama, in the hands of skilled artisans whose work we have had the privilege of witnessing firsthand. There is a quiet level of care in the way each frame is built, something that is felt in the finished piece.
Once complete, your heirloom is shipped directly to your home. The moment of unwrapping and placing it on the wall is part of the experience, as the portrait takes its place within your space. What began as a single moment is now something lasting, made to be seen, lived with, and passed down over time.
